Midterms

I’ve been super busy because of school….stupid midterms. Luckily some of my hard work is starting to come back. I got 2 midterms back today and noticed something. They are both 83 (which isnt to bad)! I began to think…what if im bound by the number 83 now? Just like Jim Carrey…even though he’s 23. Well at least 83 is greater than 23.

Seussical

This week at Pipeline, the stage was full of Dr Seuss props. At CBU i guess they are having a seussical and it made me want to run around talking in rymns. Unfortunately im not that good with them or words so i decided just to Wikipedia some stuff about Dr. Seuss. So i was reading about him and realized that we pronounce “Seuss” wrong! Its pronounced “zoice” (i guess its German!). Anywayz, i began thinking…does that mean its the zoiceical, instead of the Seussical? lol it sounds like a ice cream bar! I apologize…i was in a random mood. lol.

Remix

Hey guys sorry I haven’t gotten to do this sooner…but I’ve been super busy with midterms. The good news is…I only have 2 more! Yay! Almost 3 weeks ago (Feb 11th) we started a new series at Sandals, and it’s a series called remix. The idea of this series is to “remix” our way of prayer. So to do this, Sandals invited a DJ to do some tunes before and after the service (pretty sweet). We had DJ Red Beef (interesting name) do the services that Sunday.

DJ Red Beef

Now what’s this on changing the way we pray? How can we accomplish this? Why is it so hard for us to pray? Questions, Questions, Questions. For must of us (especially me), have struggled with prayer all their lives. What way is more effective? How can I understand prayer fully to make it work? Pastor Matt’s goal is to show us the way Jesus taught us to pray, and to do that we need to understand what prayer really is. Real God centered prayer is the most powerful force known to mankind (Matt 21:22). Jesus tells us that prayer is one of our most powerful weapons, yet why is it that us as Christians don’t use it? We don’t believe. Us as Christians struggle with prayer, and don’t have the faith that it will actually happen. Prayer remains a mystery to us. We struggle with when, how, and what we should pray for. Unfortunately we have new Christians come into the church or even old Christians who don’t know how to pray and have them pray making them feel uncomfortable. Not saying its bad, but what needs to be done is that every Christian must be taught how to pray. What eventually happens is Christians begin to copy religious leaders in their prayer life. We start using all these different names for God, and all these ideas of prayer we get from other people are suppose to be a reflection of their relationship with God not our relationship. We need to find out how God wants us to pray and not the people around us. That is the whole idea behind this series. It doesn’t matter how long we have been prayer – we are going to let Jesus teach us how to pray (Matt 6:9-13).

Mixed Feelings…

Ghost Rider

I went to go see Ghost rider. I kind of have mixed feelings about this movie, mainly because I’m a comic book fan. On one side I’m like, “heck freaking yeah!” and on the other side its like, “eh it’s alright”. The movie had some character development, (obviously they needed to tell the story of Ghost rider) but I think it was a little weak in developing the evil characters. It had 3 other random demon guys, which were just other fallen demons that I really didn’t understand their purpose. The story line was kind of predictable, but all in all I thought it was a decent movie. It was fun to see (kind of creepy graphics at some times); just compared to the other great Marvel movies such as Spider-man it wasn’t the best movie out there. Unfortunately like all comic book movies, it’s going to be compared to the better of the movies and people will not like it as well. Anyone else see it?

Lotto

So I got this letter in the mail. I open it up and it says, to thoughtful you…from thankful me. I look down and see that there are 5 lotto scratchers. So I have no idea who this is from, but I won 10 bucks! It had no return address and no signature of who sent it. I go around asking my parents if they have any clue, and come to find out I did some math stuff for a family friend a while back (which I remember now) and they sent me the scratchers. Heck freaking yeah!

Sink

When you throw your sink in the front yard when you buy a new one! A friend of mine was having a new sink put in and they threw their old one in the front yard…I thought it was funny. I’m pretty sure its going to be thrown away in an hour or so, but I was walking out of there house and it was just in the middle of the yard. Not on the side so it could be put easily into the trash, but tossed into the middle of the yard. lol I love it.

Disneyland

Last night I went to Disneyland! I went with a small SCU group and it was a lot of fun. The only downer of the night was that Disneyland closed at 10…yeah 10! So what do a group of college students do when they run out of things to do? They go walk around and get food. So we went to Wetzel’s Pretzels and some of the other people went to the ice cream store right next to it. It was getting late so I decided to call Michelle and talk to her a bit while everyone was in line, and so the only ones outside were me, Mikie, and Nick. So while I was on the phone I noticed a group of Goth/Emo people walking up and just hanging out in the same area (I’m not sure if they were getting food too or what, but they were just hanging out there). So one of the Goth guys comes up to Nick and asks for a cigarette and so he gave him one. I was just finishing up my phone call and it seemed like everyone from the guys group went somewhere and it was just him and us. So I stood up and joined them. When I joined in, they were talking about things they like to do and the guy was telling us how he wanted to be a mortician. I started thinking, ok that’s kind of creepy. Goth guy wanting to work with dead people, strange but ironically seemed normal for someone like that. So we were talking about different kinds of schools and stuff, just I guess you could say, “small talk”. He was actually really nice and seemed pretty cool. His group started coming back, and there were talking about some strange things. I heard one of them saying, “That guy just called me a transvestite, I got called that again.” My heart just sank. The guy we were with started telling us how he lives with his girlfriend and that he’s been experimenting with drugs. Nick began to tell him about his struggle in the past with it. Then guys group wanted to leave, so we said our goodbyes and they were gone. Inside I felt like I wanted to do something, but I couldn’t. There was some sort of dept to him that I could see in his eyes, I don’t know. It really made me think a lot today, and I’ve been really wrestling with the idea of building intentional relationships to tell others about Christ. If he hadn’t come over, I would most likely never talk to him or try to get to know him just because he looked scary. If I can find a connection with someone I didn’t think would be possible, how much more of a connection can I make with people I can relate to? If this guy could open up, who else do I know would do the same thing? So I guess my question of the day is how can I better build intentional relationships with people?

Pastor Matt

Dang. Well this week’s message was a big slap in the face to me. A relationship with God is not easy. There’s a lot of times were I’m pumped and on fire for God, and also times that I’m like God why don’t I feel you like I used to? Why is that? How can you totally feel on fire and then go almost the opposite? God is a humble God. I’ve really been thinking and wrestling with God on this, why is it that I all of a sudden get lame? This week, Pastor Matt brings up the analogy that I just think is amazing. God likes to play hide and seek. Really….its true. God hides Himself (Isaiah 45:15). What I (and we) have to realize is that the relationship with God takes work. Just like I continually seek to go deeper and grow with my girlfriend, I need to do that with God. We need to look at our relationship, like one we hold onto in our own lives (i.e. family, friend, and girlfriend). God likes to sometimes be chased, just like we do. What’s amazing about God, is the times He’s with you and we’re pumped are the times that God pursues us. The times that we don’t feel or see God in what we are doing, God wants us to seek after Him, to grow and go deeper in your relationship with Him. Is this possible? How can we build a relationship with someone we can’t see or talk directly to? It takes work, on both sides. It takes us the effort to try to “know” God (for what He knows Himself to be), and God seeking us. What’s retarded is sometimes we seek so much in our lives to have someone to just love us the way we are, when God has a passion for having a relationship with us (Ex 34:14 NLT). It’s amazing how we can just pass up on God for just the smallest things, sometimes I think so much of myself than what God really wants in my life. Pastor Matt gave us four ways that we need to at least have, to get a real authentic relationship with God.

1. A determination to seek God above all else.
So I’m going over the list of what we need to have at least to accomplish this, and I fail miserably on the very first one. Come-on, “Above all else?” Myself is at the top of what I seek, I can be so self-centered I’m horrible at this one. Definitely this is going to be at the top of my list for 2007 to work on, a lot with a lot of other things.

2. A willingness to hear from God through each other.
This I think I do decent on, with small groups I have really heard things that God was trying to tell me. Sometimes though I can be very selective in what I hear from other people. God could very well be yelling at me to be doing something and it literally takes like 2 or more people before I really hear.

3. A desire to connect with him through His word (the Bible).
This has not been as good as it has in the past. I need to really start immersing myself again in the Bible so I can see again Jesus’ passion for us and non-Christians.

4 A passion to live a life of holiness.
I have this passion, but I’m far from holiness. Unfortunately what we do as Christians is base ourselves on other people, when what we need to be doing is basing ourselves up to Christ. How good do I look compared to Him? Like Scubala (Crap, for those Sandalites who like funny Greek words like me).

Basically, I’m glad my Christianity isn’t based on myself, it’s based on Christ. My Christian life is definitely a work in progress, and thank God it is because then I would never grow as a Christian. He will continually work in our lives (Philippians 1:6).

Good times…well sometimes i guess.

Karai

Well I was looking at some pictures of the new TMNT movie that comes out March 23 and I noticed that Karai (the chick in the picture) is going to be in it. It’s pretty cool that she’s in it, which means that the shredder is not in it. Personally I’m glad he’s not, because I think he’s been way overplayed. For those who don’t know who Karai is…u need to watch the series to know that. Since I’m a nice guy ill give u a brief background. Since the same people who do the series wrote the movie, I’m assuming that shredder is banished still. In the story, the shredder is an Utrom. An being from another planet (that looks kind of like a brain), who is trying to get back at the other Utrom’s and return to their home planet to conquer it. While being on earth, Shredder was based in Japan, but moved to New York to find some artifacts. He left in charge of the Japan company, Karai (who is shredder’s adopted human daughter). When the Ninja Turtles defeat shredder the Utrom’s banned Shredder to another dimension, and Karai (who was struggling with what was honorable and what was not) vowed to take revenge on the Ninja turtles. There you go, brief overview. Cant wait for the movie! March 23!
